“Bajere Baje Dhol Ar Dhak” Returns Modernised

Eighteen years after it first captured the hearts of Bengali music lovers, the iconic song “Bajere Baje Dhol Ar Dhak” is returning with a vibrant, modern twist. Originally performed by singer Sonia, who gained recognition through the CloseUp One Tomakei Khujchhi Bangladesh competition, the song quickly became a nationwide favourite. Its rhythmic beats, lively dhak, and celebratory energy have ensured it remains a staple at festivals and cultural events, both in Bangladesh and abroad.

Sonia, the original vocalist, has since taken a step back from the music industry, settling in Canada after marrying and starting a family. Despite her absence, her rendition of the song has remained an enduring favourite. To introduce this classic to a new generation, production house Ganchil has decided to release a refreshed version, combining nostalgia with contemporary music trends.

The song’s original composer and music director, Shawkat Ali Emon, has returned to oversee the project. Both audio recording and video shooting are now complete. The new version incorporates modern sound design, additional vocal talents, and a visually engaging video to appeal to today’s audiences without losing the essence of the original.

Shawkat Ali Emon shared his thoughts on the song, saying, “Some songs become more than just music; they become part of people’s lives. Bajere Baje Dhol Ar Dhak is one such song. Even after eighteen years, the love for it remains unchanged. Wherever I have gone, the song has always received a special welcome. Our aim with this updated version is to make it resonate with younger listeners while keeping the original spirit alive. We hope the new generation will embrace it as warmly as past audiences did.”

The revamped version features Shawkat Ali Emon alongside rising singers Jhilik, Luipa, Anisa, and Cornia, all of whom have appeared on popular reality shows like Channel i Sera Kontho and Power Voice. Lyrics are by Kabir Bakul, while the video has been directed by Chandan Roy Chowdhury and filmed recently in Dhaka.

Scheduled for release on 9 April, ahead of the Bengali New Year, the song is expected to reignite festive celebrations with its familiar yet fresh sound.
