Dhaka, 27 January 2026 — In a decisive move to curb fare evasion and promote passenger accountability, Bangladesh Railway conducted a special one-day operation across the Eastern Region on Monday (26 January). The campaign identified a total of 2,153 passengers travelling without valid tickets across 75 trains, resulting in combined revenue and fines amounting to ৳477,085.
According to an official statement published on the verified Bangladesh Railway page on Tuesday (27 January), the operation aimed to enhance awareness among rail passengers about their responsibilities and encourage lawful ticket usage. A total of 100 trained Train Ticket Inspectors (TTIs) were deployed, conducting ticket checks from early morning until evening across a range of passenger services.
During the operation, 2,441 tickets were inspected, of which 2,153 passengers were found to be travelling without valid tickets. Fare recovery from these passengers amounted to ৳330,830, with an additional ৳146,225 collected as fines, bringing the day’s total earnings to ৳477,085.
Railway officials highlighted that such operations not only generate significant revenue but also cultivate a culture of accountability and routine compliance among passengers. Experts suggest that regular, large-scale inspections can substantially reduce the prevalence of fare evasion over time.
