Bangladesh reignited their title ambitions in the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship with an emphatic 3–0 victory over Nepal, delivering a composed and authoritative performance in Bangkok on Monday. The match, played at the Nonthaburi Indoor Hall in the Thai capital, saw the Bangladeshi side dominate proceedings and underline their credentials as serious contenders for the championship.
Goals from captain Sabina Khatun, experienced forward Krishna Rani Sarkar and substitute Lipi Akter ensured a comprehensive win for Saeed Khodarrahmi’s team. With this result, Bangladesh moved to seven points from three matches, firmly re-entering the race for the title in the highly competitive seven-team tournament.
From the opening whistle, Bangladesh displayed their attacking intent, pressing high and controlling possession with swift passing and intelligent movement. Within the first ten minutes, they carved out two clear scoring opportunities, although a lack of clinical finishing initially denied them an early breakthrough. Nepal, meanwhile, struggled to cope with the pace and intensity of Bangladesh’s play, spending much of the opening period on the defensive.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 14th minute through a moment of quality. Anita initiated the move before Krishna Rani released a perfectly weighted pass to Sabina Khatun. The Bangladesh captain made no mistake, dispatching a precise shot past the Nepalese goalkeeper to give her side a deserved lead.
Confidence flowing, Bangladesh continued to apply pressure, and just before the interval Krishna Rani showcased her individual brilliance. Driving through the heart of Nepal’s defence, she finished calmly to double the advantage and send Bangladesh into the break with a comfortable 2–0 lead.
The second half saw Bangladesh adopt a slightly more cautious approach, focusing on defensive discipline while remaining dangerous on the counter-attack. Nepal attempted to mount a response, creating a handful of chances, but goalkeeper Swapna Akter proved imperious between the posts. Her three outstanding saves in the second half effectively extinguished Nepal’s hopes of a comeback.
Any lingering doubt was removed when Lipi Akter added Bangladesh’s third goal, capitalising on sustained pressure to seal a convincing victory. The goal capped off a polished team performance marked by tactical awareness, composure and physical intensity.
The SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship is being contested in a league format, with no final match. Instead, the team accumulating the highest number of points after all fixtures will be crowned champions. Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in their fourth match on Wednesday, a contest that could prove pivotal in determining the eventual title winner.
