Ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, selected bank branches across Bangladesh will operate on a limited basis on Thursday, 19 March, to facilitate salary and allowance payments for ready-made garment (RMG) workers. This follows directives from Bangladesh Bank to ensure essential banking services remain accessible in industrial areas while operating with minimal staff.
Branches located in Dhaka, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and RMG-intensive zones of Chattogram will remain open on the day. Banking hours will run from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, with customer transactions conducted between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. A brief pause will be observed for Zuhr prayers.

The limited operations are aimed at ensuring that workers in Bangladesh’s garment sector—a key driver of the nation’s export economy—receive timely access to wages and allowances. While operations are restricted, the measures balance essential financial access with the observance of the festive schedule.
Bank customers are advised to plan their visits carefully, arriving within operational hours and allowing for the brief pause for Zuhr prayers.
This initiative demonstrates Bangladesh Bank’s and commercial banks’ continued commitment to supporting industrial workers during major festivals, combining operational flexibility with the uninterrupted provision of essential financial services.
