In a landmark development for Bangladeshi cricket, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to inaugurate its first-ever regional branch office, signalling a new era in the country’s cricket administration. The inaugural office is scheduled to open in Sylhet, with the official ceremony expected as early as tomorrow, according to sources within the board.
This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to decentralise cricket administration, taking the sport beyond Dhaka and into the heart of the country’s divisional regions. Following Sylhet, BCB plans to establish similar offices in Chittagong, Barishal, Khulna, and other divisions, strengthening grassroots development and administrative efficiency.
Unlike conventional associations, these regional offices will carry the name of the division itself—for example, BCB Sylhet or BCB Chittagong—and will be led by a designated Regional Head. Each office will have its own organogram and staff structure, ensuring autonomy and streamlined decision-making tailored to local cricket needs.
To ensure the recruitment of qualified and competent leaders, the BCB plans to publicly advertise the positions of regional office heads, inviting applications from across the country. This transparent process aims to bring experienced professionals into key management roles.
The move is inspired by the regional management models seen in cricketing nations such as India, Australia, and England, where state and regional offices play a crucial role in both player development and operational management. By decentralising governance, BCB aims to enhance cricket operations outside the capital, improve talent identification, and foster stronger community engagement in the sport.
Currently, Sylhet is hosting the ongoing BPL, with all Chittagong matches temporarily relocated to the city. This timing aligns with the opening of the new regional office, symbolically linking professional tournaments with administrative expansion. Since assuming the presidency, Aminul Islam Bulbul has emphasised strengthening regional cricket infrastructure, making this initiative a top priority.
Proposed Regional Offices Overview
| Division | Office Name | Regional Head | Key Functions | Status |

| Barishal | BCB Barishal | To be appointed | Administration, Development, Coaching | Planned |
