BCB President’s Directive: Director Nazmul Must Show Cause

In a significant development, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul has instructed BCB Director M. Nazmul Islam to provide an explanation regarding his recent controversial remarks about former national cricket captain Tamim Iqbal. The directive requires Nazmul to submit a formal “rejoinder” addressing his comments, which the President confirmed is effectively equivalent to a showcause notice.

The instructions follow remarks made by Nazmul on his personal Facebook profile concerning Tamim, which drew attention amid ongoing national debates over cricket administration. Bulbul emphasised the importance of maintaining respect for the performances of national team captains in any public commentary.

“The director posted these comments on his personal social media account,” Bulbul said during a media interaction following the jersey and trophy unveiling ceremony of the ‘GNC School Cricket Tournament’ in Sylhet on Saturday night. The event was organised by the BCB’s Regional Cricket Centre, and Bulbul attended as the chief guest.

He added, “We have asked him to submit a rejoinder. In my view, any comment about a national team captain should uphold the dignity of their performance. Remarks that do not take this into consideration are inappropriate.”

When asked whether submitting a rejoinder is considered equivalent to a showcause notice, Bulbul affirmed, “Yes.” He further indicated that the matter will be discussed openly at the upcoming board meeting on 24 January. “Nazmul himself is a director. The issue will be thoroughly examined during the board session,” he said.

The BCB is already under significant scrutiny following its controversial decision not to send a team to the upcoming World Cup. Asked whether directors’ controversial statements might create additional complications, Bulbul chose not to comment.
