Speaking at the programme, Colonel Rakibul Hasan underscored the severe societal consequences of drug abuse and trafficking. He stated that narcotics not only destroy individual lives but also weaken families and contribute to broader social instability. He warned that the younger generation is particularly vulnerable, with addiction undermining both personal development and national productivity.
He further stressed the importance of building a coordinated social resistance against drugs, alongside sustained enforcement efforts by law enforcement agencies. According to him, effective drug control requires a dual approach: strict border surveillance to disrupt supply chains and increased public awareness to reduce demand within communities.
Colonel Hasan reiterated that the BGB remains firmly committed to preventing narcotics smuggling along the border and will continue its operations with heightened vigilance and operational readiness, even in challenging conditions.
The event was also attended by several senior officials from different agencies, including Lieutenant Colonel M M Zillur Rahman, Commanding Officer of BGB Battalion 4 in Feni; Assistant Director Md Nazrul Islam Khan; Executive Magistrate Chayan Barua; Customs, Excise and VAT Department official Bikash Sarkar; Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Camp Commander Squadron Leader Md Mizanur Rahman; and representative of the Department of Narcotics Control in Feni, Noor Mohammad, among others.
Officials collectively reaffirmed the importance of inter-agency coordination in strengthening border security and dismantling drug trafficking networks that exploit cross-border routes. They noted that joint operations have played a crucial role in increasing seizures and disrupting smuggling activities in recent months.
The destruction of the seized narcotics marks another step in ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking, which continues to pose a persistent challenge in Bangladesh’s border regions.
