In a major crackdown along the Kurigram border areas, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully confiscated smuggled goods and narcotics worth an estimated Tk 3.5 million, while apprehending one individual involved in trafficking. The operation, carried out over the past 72 hours, underscores the force’s ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order and securing the nation’s borders.
The operation was confirmed on Monday, 22 December, by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mahbub-ul-Haq PSC, Commanding Officer of the Kurigram Battalion (22 BGB). He emphasised that the objective of the operation was to prevent the illegal movement of narcotics, counterfeit currency, and other contraband into Bangladesh. “Our personnel conduct constant surveillance and patrols to ensure public safety and uphold border security,” he added.
According to BGB sources, the operation led to the seizure of various illicit items, including Yaba tablets, alcoholic beverages, cannabis, livestock, Indian rupees, and multiple types of smuggled goods from India. These items were recovered from different locations across the border, reflecting the scale and persistence of smuggling networks in the region. The arrested individual is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to uncover potential links to wider trafficking operations.
The Kurigram Battalion stressed that all actions are in line with the ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy implemented by the BGB Headquarters. This policy mandates strict measures against all forms of smuggling, illegal border crossings, and circulation of counterfeit currency. “Our officers operate with the highest level of professionalism, vigilance, and efficiency. We are committed to securing sensitive and critical areas, preventing illegal activities, and ensuring the safety of local communities,” Lieutenant Colonel Mahbub-ul-Haq explained.
The seizures have been hailed by local residents, who expressed confidence in the BGB’s ongoing efforts. The operation demonstrates the force’s proactive approach to safeguarding borders and maintaining law and order, while also deterring future criminal activities.
