Billie Eilish Urges Gun Reform Amid Deadly Shootings in U.S. and Australia

Pop sensation Billie Eilish has once again spoken out on the urgent need for stricter gun control, following a series of devastating shootings around the world this week. The singer took to Instagram on Sunday, 14 December 2025, to pay tribute to the victims and encourage her followers to take political action.

In her post, Eilish wrote: “Today is the anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, & we woke up to the news of mass shootings in Australia, at Brown University, & in Brooklyn. This is so devastating. My heart goes out to all of the victims & their loved ones.”

The nine-time Grammy winner added a call to action: “Raise your voice, work for change, & vote out anyone who’s not willing to reform gun policy.”

The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred on 14 December 2012, when a gunman entered the school grounds and killed 26 people, including 20 children aged six and seven. Exactly 13 years later, within a 24-hour period, three similarly violent attacks occurred across the globe:

  • On Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia, at least 15 people were killed after a gunman opened fire during a Hanukkah celebration.

  • In Brooklyn, New York, six teenagers were shot and wounded at a birthday party.

  • At Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, authorities are still searching for the individual responsible for killing two people and injuring nine others.

Eilish has been a vocal advocate for gun reform in the United States, frequently using her platform to promote legislative action. In 2023, she joined the Artists for Action to Prevent Gun Violence coalition, alongside artists such as Sheryl Crow, Peter Gabriel, and Rufus Wainwright.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, the United States has already experienced 392 mass shootings in 2025, highlighting the ongoing crisis that activists like Eilish aim to address.
