In a shocking act of violence in Faridpur’s Alfadanga upazila, a BNP leader, Saiful Sardar, also known as Saifel (47), was killed after assailants posing as police officers stormed his home late at night. One person has been taken into custody in connection with the attack.
The incident occurred in the Brahman Jatigram area of Sadar Union during the early hours of Thursday, 25 December. Saiful Sardar, the son of Hobi Sardar, was a respected figure in the community and served as the cultural and literary affairs secretary of the Sadar Union BNP. By profession, he was a farmer. Another individual, identified as Ismail Molya, sustained serious injuries during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to police and local sources, the violence appears to stem from a longstanding rivalry between two local factions, the Tuhin Group and the Jewel Group, who have been in conflict over local dominance for several years. On the night of the attack, members of the rival faction reportedly gained entry to Saiful Sardar’s home under the guise of law enforcement officers and launched a sudden and brutal assault. Saiful was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries en route.
The police have detained one suspect for questioning, and investigations are ongoing to identify additional perpetrators and motives behind the attack. Local residents expressed shock and concern over the escalation of violence in the area, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced security measures in Alfadanga.
