The senior leadership of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has requested well-wishers to refrain from visiting veteran politician Nazrul Islam Khan following his admission to hospital. Khan, a member of the BNP’s highest policymaking body, the Standing Committee, and a newly appointed adviser to the Prime Minister, was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday, 30 June.
Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP’s media cell, confirmed the development on Wednesday afternoon. He stated that the senior politician had returned to the capital on 25 June after receiving medical treatment in Singapore. Despite his return, persisting health complications prompted his medical team to recommend immediate hospitalisation at the facility located in the Bashundhara Residential Area.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, a Member of Parliament and a prominent party colleague, visited the hospital to check on Khan’s health. He was accompanied by Shairul Kabir Khan. Following a detailed discussion with the attending specialists, the parliamentarian urged party activists, leaders, and the general public to abide by strict medical protocols.
According to the media cell representative, doctors have strongly advised against any visitors entering the patient’s room. The restriction has been put in place to minimise the risk of secondary infections and to ensure that the veteran leader receives uninterrupted rest during his recovery period.
Nazrul Islam Khan remains one of the most influential figures within the opposition BNP, holding a crucial position within the Standing Committee for over a decade. His recent appointment as an adviser to the Prime Minister has been viewed by political analysts as a notable development in the country’s ongoing political landscape, serving as an important point of contact between government leadership and opposition strategies.
His sudden hospitalisation has triggered concern among party grassroots and political circles. While the family and party officials have not disclosed the specific nature of his ailments, they confirmed that his condition is currently stable. A specialised medical board is monitoring his progress, and further updates are expected after diagnostic test results are fully reviewed. The family has requested the nation to pray for his speedy recovery.
