BNP Volunteer Leader Steps Down After Symbolic Milk Bath

In a striking and unusual political gesture, Mohammad Tushar Ali, a leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal, resigned from politics on Sunday, 23 November, after bathing himself in milk. The event unfolded publicly in front of his shop at Khochabari Bazar in Jagannathpur Union, Sadar Upazila, Thakurgaon.

Tushar Ali, who has served as the general secretary of Ward No. 7 of the Swechchhasebak Dal in Jagannathpur Union, announced his departure from political life following the ritual, which he described as a symbolic act of spiritual cleansing.

Speaking to the press, Tushar Ali explained that he had dedicated many years to the party, enduring hardships and political harassment, particularly during challenging periods in its history. Despite his loyalty and efforts, he claimed that his contributions had not been properly recognised in recent times.

“I have served faithfully and faced difficulties for the party during its trying days,” he said. “Yet my efforts have gone unacknowledged, and I feel my sacrifices were in vain. This lack of recognition has deeply affected me.”

He further stated that, after reflecting on his long political career, he felt he might have accumulated sins through his involvement in politics. In his view, the milk bath was a way to symbolically cleanse himself of these burdens before formally announcing his resignation from BNP politics.

Md Robiul Islam, the general secretary of Jagannathpur Union BNP, confirmed Tushar Ali’s position within the party and acknowledged his years of service.

This unusual method of resignation has drawn attention across the local political scene, highlighting the personal and emotional dimensions of political participation at grassroots levels. While most political resignations are issued through formal letters or statements, Tushar Ali’s milk bath serves as a vivid demonstration of personal symbolism intersecting with political life.
