Several areas of Boalkhali upazila in Chattogram will remain without electricity for up to eight hours on Tuesday (22 September) as maintenance work is carried out on a local power distribution line.
The Boalkhali Zonal Office of Chattogram Palli Bidyut Samity-1 announced the planned interruption in a notice issued on Monday (21 September). According to the notice, electricity supply will be suspended from 8am to 4pm to allow workers to carry out maintenance work safely.
The work is scheduled around the power line connected to Feeder No. 3 of the Fultala substation. Trees and vegetation growing close to the line will be cut back as part of the maintenance operation. Electricity will be switched off in the affected areas while the work is under way.
The outage will cover a number of residential areas and important local establishments. The affected locations include Churakhali Bridge, Oyahed Ali Pukurpar, Hansh Mahajoner Bari, Shefu Chairman’s Bari, Banglapara, Pakkir Pol, Afzal Talukdar’s Bari, Harun Chairman’s Bari, Gabtala and Beijja Pukurpar.
Electricity will also be unavailable around Arab Tendal’s Bari, Jinnat Ali’s Bari, Dena Pukurpar and Lalardighi Par.
Several public and educational institutions will fall within the affected zone as well. These include Kadurkhil Union Parishad, Kadurkhil Muslim High School and Al-Quran Academy. The areas around Buddhum Fakir’s shrine and Karim Shah’s shrine will also be affected.
The scheduled maintenance means residents and businesses in these locations may face temporary disruption to routine activities during the eight-hour period. Electricity-dependent equipment and services may not be available while the supply remains suspended, making advance preparation advisable for those with essential tasks during the outage.
The maintenance work involves cutting trees and vegetation around the electricity line. Keeping vegetation away from power infrastructure is part of routine safety and maintenance work, particularly where branches or foliage may interfere with overhead lines. Disconnecting the supply during such work also allows maintenance personnel to carry out the operation under safer conditions.
However, the outage may not last the full eight hours. The Boalkhali Zonal Office said electricity supply would be restored immediately if the scheduled maintenance is completed before 4pm. Customers therefore may see power return earlier than the announced restoration time.
The authority has apologised to customers in the affected areas for the temporary inconvenience caused by the maintenance operation. It said the work is being undertaken as part of efforts to maintain a reliable and uninterrupted electricity service in the area.
