A deeply unsettling incident has been reported from Naogaon town, where the body of a young bus conductor’s assistant was recovered from inside a parked vehicle at a repair garage. The discovery was made on Tuesday around 11:00 am at a garage located near Barunkandi Mor on the town bypass, triggering widespread concern among local residents and transport workers.
The deceased has been identified as Jahid Islam (22), son of the late Ibrahim from Tulshirampur village under Manda upazila in Naogaon district. Jahid had been working for nearly a year as a conductor’s assistant with a passenger bus operated under the name “BR Super Paribahan.”
According to local sources and police reports, the bus developed a mechanical fault on Monday and was taken to Kalur Garage in the Barunkandi area for engine repairs. Mechanics were reportedly working on the vehicle throughout the day. As is often customary among transport workers during long repair operations, Jahid and a colleague, Yusuf, remained with the vehicle overnight.
After having dinner, both men are believed to have fallen asleep inside the bus. In the morning, Yusuf repeatedly attempted to wake Jahid, but received no response. Initially assuming he was in deep sleep, Yusuf later grew concerned when all attempts to rouse him failed. The matter was then reported to the garage owner and subsequently to the local police.
Police from Naogaon Sadar Model Thana arrived at the scene and recovered the body from inside the bus at around 11:00 am. The body was later sent to Naogaon General Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities confirmed that no visible external injuries were found on the body at the time of recovery.
A police official stated that several pieces of evidence have been collected from the scene, including items from inside the bus. However, the cause of death remains unclear. Investigators have not ruled out either natural causes or foul play, pending the results of the autopsy.
An unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident, and further investigation is underway.
