In a tragic development that has left the local community and authorities in shock, the body of Md. Touhidul Islam Molya was recovered from a pond in Muksudpur Upazila, Gopalganj, three months after he went missing. According to police and family sources, Touhidul Molya was the son of Aktar Ali Molla of Latifpur village in Gobindapur Union. He was reported missing on 16 December 2025, when family members lost all contact with him. Despite extensive searches across the village and neighbouring areas, no trace of him was found. Following several unsuccessful attempts to locate him, his father filed a general diary (GD) and formal complaint at Muksudpur Police Station.
On Monday, 16 March 2026, local residents were conducting cleaning work at a pond in neighbouring Vakuri village, which was densely covered with water hyacinth. During the activity, they noticed a submerged body. Alarmed, they raised an outcry, drawing nearby villagers who immediately alerted the police. Muksudpur police officers promptly arrived at the scene and retrieved the body.
Police and family members confirmed the identity of the deceased based on clothing and other distinguishing features. The body, having remained underwater for an extended period, was in an advanced state of decomposition. Following recovery, it was sent to the Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
OC of Muksudpur Police Station, Abdullah Al Mamun, stated, “The body has been recovered three months after the disappearance. Whether it was a case of homicide or a result of other circumstances will be confirmed after the autopsy report. Legal action will follow based on the findings.”
