In a chilling development that has sent shockwaves through the local community, authorities recovered the body of an unidentified man from a pond adjacent to Feni Sadar Model Police Station. The discovery was made in the early hours of Tuesday, 9 December, when a joint operation by the police and the fire service successfully retrieved the body from the water at around midnight.
Police sources reported that the deceased bore severe head injuries, raising urgent questions about the circumstances surrounding his death. The victim’s identity remains unknown, and officials are currently investigating whether foul play, an accident, or other factors contributed to the tragic event.
According to eyewitness accounts, the body was first spotted by Mohammad Shahin, a night-time caretaker responsible for feeding the fish in the pond. “I go to the pond every night to feed the fish,” Shahin told Prothom Alo. “Last night, while walking along the western bank, I noticed the body. I immediately alerted the police. Witnessing something like this is truly frightening and unsettling.”
The deceased is estimated to be around 42 years old and was dressed in casual clothing, including a shirt, lungi, and muffler.
Sajal Kanti Das, the Investigating Officer at Feni Model Police Station, stated, “Preliminary examination suggests that the body may have been in the water for several days. The presence of significant trauma to the head indicates the possibility of homicide, although an accident cannot be ruled out at this stage. Our priority is to establish the victim’s identity and ascertain the exact cause of death.” He added that the body had been sent to Feni General Hospital’s 250-bed morgue for a post-mortem examination. Efforts are also underway to trace the deceased’s family and gather information from local residents.

Residents have voiced apprehensions about the lack of adequate security around the pond and neighbouring areas, calling for prompt and thorough investigations.
