Rupganj, Narayanganj — In a brazen overnight raid, a private educational institution, Bright Shishu Kanan High School, fell victim to a significant theft. The incident, which took place at an unspecified time on Saturday night, saw perpetrators break into the school office, ransacking the room and making off with a substantial sum of cash along with crucial documents. The episode has sent shockwaves through both the school administration and teaching staff, leaving them deeply concerned about security.
The crime occurred in the Khamarpur area of Kayetpara Union. On Sunday morning, 15 February, assistant teacher Anik Rahman discovered the office in disarray. Upon entering, he found the lock broken and the room in a state of confusion. He immediately informed Headmaster Rafiqul Islam, who alerted the rest of the teaching staff. Upon inspection, the office furniture was overturned, and the filing cabinets had been forcibly opened.
Stolen Property and Extent of Theft
Initial reports indicate that the intruders targeted not only cash but also essential student records and administrative files. Headmaster Rafiqul Islam provided a detailed account of the items taken, summarised in the table below:
| Item Category | Quantity / Description |
|---|---|
| Cash | 127,000 BDT |
| Important Documents | Student admission files, office records |
| Notebooks and Diaries | Teachers’ personal and office notebooks |
| Ties and ID Badges | Official staff ID cards and uniform accessories |
While the theft may appear to be a routine burglary at first glance, school authorities suspect it was a deliberately planned operation, given the selective targeting of cash and specific documents.
Police Response
Subzel Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj Police Station, confirmed that law enforcement was dispatched to the scene immediately after the incident was reported. “An investigation is already underway. Evidence is being collected, and appropriate legal action will follow. The formal process of filing a case is ongoing,” he stated.
Security Concerns and Institutional Measures
This incident has raised serious questions regarding the school’s internal security arrangements. Teachers and administrators are reportedly anxious and are considering more robust safety protocols to prevent recurrence. Headmaster Rafiqul Islam said, “We are exploring enhanced security measures, including CCTV installation and regular on-site guards. The safety of our students remains our top priority.”
The theft serves as a stark reminder to the local community and educational institutions alike. Local authorities and schools in Rupganj are being urged to coordinate closely to strengthen security systems, thereby preventing similar incidents in the future.
