Kushtia, Bangladesh – In a major anti-smuggling operation, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized a substantial quantity of LSD and other contraband from border areas in Kushtia, with the estimated market value of the confiscated items exceeding 62 million taka, authorities announced on Tuesday.
The operation, conducted by the Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB), was based on actionable intelligence regarding illicit trafficking along the Bangladesh-India border. Officials said the seizures demonstrate the BGB’s ongoing commitment to maintaining security and preventing cross-border criminal activities in the region.

LSD Recovered from Train Inspection
On the afternoon of Tuesday, 24 March, a specialised BGB patrol unit carried out a detailed search at Mirpur Railway Station. The team inspected the Madhumati Express, which travels from Rajshahi to Dhaka, and discovered 12 bottles of Indian-manufactured LSD, each containing 50 millilitres of the drug.
The LSD, found abandoned on the train, is estimated to have a total market value of approximately 62.4 million taka, suggesting that traffickers had attempted to evade detection by leaving the contraband behind.
Additional Contraband Seized
In separate operations earlier that day, BGB teams recovered Indian dexamethasone tablets, Faredil syrup, and leaf-wrapped bidi cigarettes from Munshiganj Maidan in Daulatpur and the Pragpur riverbank area. These seizures are part of ongoing efforts to intercept commonly trafficked goods entering local markets through border routes.
The BGB emphasised that these operations are part of a continuous and intelligence-driven campaign to prevent drug smuggling and protect domestic markets.
Statement from BGB
In a press briefing, a BGB spokesperson said:
“We remain fully committed to preventing drug trafficking and cross-border smuggling. These successful operations demonstrate the vigilance and operational readiness of our forces in the Kushtia sector.”
Authorities added that additional patrols and surveillance measures have been intensified to prevent further smuggling attempts and to identify the networks behind these illegal activities.

Operational Context
The Kushtia battalion patrols highly sensitive border zones, where traffickers frequently exploit routes to smuggle drugs and contraband into Bangladesh. Recent intelligence-led operations have enabled the BGB to pre-emptively intercept large consignments, preventing potentially harmful substances from reaching local markets.
Officials also stressed the importance of public cooperation and timely reporting, urging residents in border areas to inform authorities about suspicious activities.
The recent seizures underscore both the scale of cross-border trafficking attempts and the effectiveness of coordinated, intelligence-based interventions. The BGB has reiterated that its vigilance along the border will continue, reinforcing a firm stance against illicit trafficking and associated criminal networks.
