In a thrilling display of skill and composure, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury once again made history in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) by claiming a sensational hat-trick against Noakhali Express at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The sequence of wickets began when Mahidul Islam edged a delivery that flew directly into the gloves of wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan. Despite securing the dismissal, Mrittunjoy showed no outward reaction, maintaining his characteristic calm on the field. As the umpire raised his finger, Mahidul walked back to the pavilion, while Mrittunjoy readied himself for the next challenge.
The new batsman, Zahir Khan, fell to a catch on his very first ball, which was taken by Mrittunjoy himself. Unfazed, he returned promptly to the bowling mark, keen to finish the over swiftly. The final wicket in his hat-trick came from Bilal Sami, who attempted a shot over the stumps towards square leg but was brilliantly caught by Liton Das. This time, a subtle smile spread across Mrittunjoy’s face as he celebrated, arms outstretched, marking a historic moment in BPL history.
This achievement elevated Mrittunjoy as the only bowler in BPL history to have claimed two hat-tricks. Representing Rangpur Riders, this hat-trick was the tenth overall in BPL history, and the second of the current 12th season. His remarkable feat consolidates his reputation as one of Bangladesh’s premier T20 bowlers.
