BRAC Bank Aparajeyo Alo Women’s Hockey tournament begins tomorrow

The “BRAC Bank Aparajeyo Alo Women’s Hockey Tournament 2025” is set to commence tomorrow, Sunday, 2 November, marking a significant milestone in the development of women’s sports in Bangladesh. Organised by the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) and patronised by BRAC Bank, this nationwide event aims to identify and nurture young female talent at the grassroots level.

The tournament features 18 district teams competing across four regional zones. The opening day of the competition will be hosted in the Rajshahi zone, where two matches are scheduled to set the tone for the event. Joypurhat district will face off against Rajshahi district at 1:15 pm, followed by a clash between Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts at 3:00 pm.

Empowering Athletes Through CSR

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment, BRAC Bank has contributed Tk 99 lakh to this initiative. The bank’s leadership has emphasised that the “Aparajeyo Alo” (Unbeatable Light) theme reflects their belief in the limitless potential of women. To ensure the athletes are well-prepared, the BHF is providing each player with full professional gear, including jerseys, practice kits, tracksuits, and hockey sticks.

“We are delighted to collaborate again with the Bangladesh Hockey Federation. BRAC Bank firmly believes in the immense potential of women and remains dedicated to empowering them to excel,” stated Ekram Kabir, Chief Communication Officer at BRAC Bank.

Tournament Structure and Venues

The competition is structured into two phases. The first phase sees teams battle in round-robin formats within their respective zones. The top-performing team from each zone will then advance to the national final round in Dhaka, where they will be joined by the elite Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP) team.

Path to the Finals

The zonal matches will conclude by mid-November, with the highly anticipated final round scheduled to take place at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in December. This initiative follows a successful development cup held earlier this year in March, where BKSP emerged as champions after a dominant 8-0 victory over Kishoreganj in the final.

The federation hope that by expanding the tournament to 18 districts, they can broaden the selection pool for the national under-18 and senior women’s teams, ultimately strengthening Bangladesh’s standing in international Asian hockey competitions.
