Brothers Attacked in Natore Feud: Two Days of Violence

In a disturbing escalation of local feuds, two brothers from Bagatipara Upazila in Natore were subjected to violent attacks on consecutive days, leaving the community in shock. The first victim, a mosque imam, was brutally assaulted on Friday, followed by an armed attack on his younger brother the very next day. Both men are currently receiving treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, and authorities are investigating the incidents.

According to local sources and police reports, the initial attack occurred on Friday, 6 March, around 2:00 pm in the Tunipara area of Ward 1, Bagatipara Municipality. Imam Abul Khayer was returning home after leading the Friday prayers at a local mosque when a group of assailants launched a premeditated attack. The attackers used sharp weapons, striking him multiple times, leaving him critically injured and collapsing at the scene.

Local residents promptly intervened, rescuing Abul Khayer and taking him first to Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex. Given the severity of his injuries, he was quickly transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced care. Doctors reported deep lacerations across various parts of his body, highlighting the seriousness of the assault.

The following evening, around 8:00 pm on Saturday, the imam’s younger brother, Yakub Ali, was similarly targeted. While walking along the street, he was surrounded by several individuals who attacked him with knives and sticks. Local bystanders rescued him and transported him to the Upazila Health Complex, where medical personnel described his condition as critical. He was subsequently transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he remains under specialist care.

Yakub Ali has identified the alleged attackers as Miraj, his son Mehedi, Saiful, and several others, citing longstanding family and property disputes. He further claimed that the same group was involved in the previous day’s attack on his elder brother.

Bagatipara Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer, Sajibur Rahman, confirmed that Yakub Ali received urgent treatment before being referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for comprehensive medical management.

Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Bagatipara Model Police Station, Manjurul Alam, stated that police swiftly secured the scene and are maintaining heightened vigilance in the area. Preliminary investigations indicate that the attacks were motivated by prior enmity. One suspect has already been arrested, with further arrests anticipated as the investigation continues.

The back-to-back attacks have left the local community alarmed, with residents demanding swift justice and long-term peace in the area.
