Pabna’s Bera Upazila was shaken on Friday morning (20 March) following the discovery of a gruesomely murdered rickshaw driver in a local paddy field. The victim, 55-year-old Fazlu Rahman, was found with his throat slit in a field in Boroshila village, sparking alarm and widespread concern among residents.
Fazlu Rahman, a resident of Hatigara village under Bera Municipality, was the son of the late A. Mannan. Known in the community as a quiet and hardworking man, he had earned his livelihood as a rickshaw driver for many years. His sudden and violent death has left his family and neighbours deeply traumatised.
According to local sources, several villagers who went to work in the fields discovered a bloodied body lying amidst the paddy. Upon closer inspection, they confirmed it was Fazlu Rahman. Sharp weapon marks were clearly visible on his neck, suggesting he had been deliberately attacked. The rickshaw he normally used was found nearby, undisturbed, indicating that robbery might not have been the motive behind the killing.
Bera Police arrived promptly at the scene and retrieved the body. Following preliminary documentation, it was sent to the morgue of Pabna General Hospital for autopsy. Law enforcement authorities have cordoned off surrounding areas and are conducting thorough investigations, including interviews with potential eyewitnesses.
Officer-in-Charge Nitaichandra Sarkar of Bera Police Station stated that initial inquiries suggest Fazlu Rahman may have been lured to a secluded spot at night and murdered with a sharp weapon before his body was dumped in the paddy field. The motive, whether personal enmity, longstanding feud, or other reasons, has yet to be determined.
