In the Indian Premier League (IPL), all teams have now completed four matches each. According to the official IPL website, 66 bowlers have taken at least one wicket and are listed in the statistics section under wicket-takers. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s name does not appear in that list.
This absence is also reflected on other statistical platforms such as ESPNcricinfo and Cricbuzz, where Bumrah is similarly missing from the wicket-taking charts for the current season. The reason is straightforward: he has not taken a wicket in the ongoing IPL.
Bumrah has played four matches so far in the current season for Mumbai Indians. In the most recent game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which Mumbai lost by 18 runs, he again finished without a wicket. This extends his wicketless run in the IPL to five consecutive matches, including the final stages of the 2025 season.
In the 2025 IPL, Bumrah’s last appearance saw him go wicketless against Punjab Kings in the second qualifier, where he conceded 40 runs. Mumbai Indians lost that match by five wickets. Since then, he has gone wicketless across four matches in the current season.
Across these four matches, Bumrah has bowled a total of 15 overs. Notably, he has delivered 90 balls without taking a wicket, making him the bowler with the most deliveries bowled wicketless in the current IPL season. Harshal Patel of Sunrisers Hyderabad follows him in this list with 46 wicketless deliveries, highlighting a significant gap.
According to Cricviz, Bumrah has now bowled a total of 122 balls in the IPL without taking a wicket, marking the longest wicketless stretch of his IPL career to date.

Despite the wicketless run, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has cautioned against judging Bumrah purely on wicket statistics. In a post, he argued that Bumrah’s effectiveness lies in his execution of yorkers and his ability to restrict scoring, particularly in venues such as the Wankhede Stadium.
Ashwin stated: “The discussion around Bumrah not taking wickets could harm the team. More important than searching for wickets is his ability to bowl perfect yorkers and put pressure on every run the opposition scores, especially at venues like Wankhede.”
He further added that when bowlers are not able to bowl continuous overs, their chances of taking wickets often depend on the performance of the bowler operating from the other end. According to him, despite the evolution of T20 cricket over the years, the concept of coordinated defensive bowling partnerships within a bowling unit has not developed sufficiently.
Statistically, Bumrah remains Mumbai Indians’ most economical bowler in the current season. He has conceded runs at an economy rate of 8.20 across 15 overs. However, this figure is higher than his overall T20 international career economy rate of 6.93 and his IPL career economy rate of 7.27, indicating a deviation from his historical standards.
