Bus Crash on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway Leaves 15 Injured

A passenger bus overturned on the busy Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Comilla’s Daudkandi upazila on Sunday afternoon, leaving at least 15 people injured and triggering a massive ten-kilometre traffic tailback.

The accident occurred around midday near the Gouripur East Pennai U-turn when the CDM Paribahan bus, travelling from Dhaka, lost control and flipped onto its side across the roadway. According to local witnesses and highway police, the vehicle was carrying roughly 50 passengers at the time of the incident, which investigators attribute to driver carelessness.

The collision blocked multiple lanes, halting traffic flow between Malikhil and Gouripur. Commuters and long-distance travellers faced severe delays as the tailback stretched over a considerable distance, affecting goods carriers, private cars, and public transport alike along this vital economic corridor.

Local residents and eyewitnesses rushed to the scene immediately following the crash to assist trapped passengers, working alongside responding officers from the highway police and the Gouripur police outpost. The injured passengers were transported to the Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex for urgent medical treatment.

Inspector Md Saiful Islam of the Gouripur police investigation centre confirmed that roughly 15 passengers sustained injuries, though fortunately, no fatalities were reported. Medical staff treated the wounded at the local health facility, and patients received necessary care depending on the severity of their injuries.

Following the clearance operations, law enforcement officers managed to remove the wreckage from the highway and restore normal traffic movement. Authorities continue to emphasise the importance of driver alertness and caution at key highway intersections and U-turns to prevent similar mishaps on this major national route.
