Bus Fire on Bogura Highway

A passenger bus caught fire while in motion in Bogura’s Shahjahanpur Upazila on Sunday morning, 12 April. The incident occurred in the Majhira C-Block area along the Dhaka–Rangpur Highway. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported.

The information was provided by Sub-Inspector Abu Zarra of Shahjahanpur Police Station. According to police and fire service sources, the passenger bus—operated by Kurigram Travels—was travelling from Chattogram to Kurigram when the fire broke out at approximately 8:00 a.m.

Upon noticing the flames, the driver promptly brought the vehicle to a halt, enabling passengers to disembark safely. The swift action prevented injuries or fatalities. The number of passengers on board at the time of the incident could not be immediately confirmed.

Members of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence from Shahjahanpur, along with police personnel, responded to the scene shortly after being alerted. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within approximately 30 minutes.

Station Officer Ariful Islam of Shahjahanpur Fire Service stated that the team reached the Majhira C-Block area promptly after receiving the emergency call. He confirmed that the fire was extinguished quickly and that preliminary findings indicate a short circuit in the bus battery as the likely cause of the incident.

Although the fire damaged the seats inside the vehicle, the wheels and the main structural frame remained largely intact. Authorities have not reported any additional hazards or disruptions resulting from the incident.

Sub-Inspector Abu Zarra reiterated that the driver’s immediate response ensured the safety of all passengers. While portions of the bus were burnt, no loss of life or injuries occurred.
