The ongoing Eid al-Fitr holidays have triggered long queues at fuel stations across the capital, as vehicle owners rush to refill their tanks. On Wednesday, motorcycles, private cars, and other vehicles were seen lined up outside several filling stations, with many drivers reporting that they had been waiting since early morning.
At 10:00 a.m., a visit to the Nikunja Model Service Centre and nearby CNG station in Khilkhet revealed that motorists and car owners were still waiting for fuel. Dispensing had not yet begun.
Arifur Rahman, a sales assistant at the station, confirmed, “The fuel delivery has arrived. We will start supplying shortly.” He added that there was no shortage, saying, “Each customer receives exactly the quantity they request.”
Nur Uddin Ahmed, a motorcyclist, shared his experience: “I have been waiting since dawn. It feels reassuring once they start pumping fuel.” Station manager Sohel Rana also confirmed that fuel had just arrived and distribution commenced shortly after.
Ahad Ali, who had successfully collected fuel, remarked, “I received the full amount I requested, but the waiting time in the queue was considerable.”
The situation varied across the city. At Crescent Automobiles Limited in Mohakhali’s Amtali area, only diesel was available. Other fuels remained unavailable, and the station stayed closed even by 11:00 a.m. Cashier Arif Hossain explained, “Only diesel is currently in stock. Petrol is expected around 3:00 p.m., after which we will begin dispensing.”
In Gulshan, the Service Centre saw similarly long queues for petrol and diesel, with motorcycles and private cars both waiting patiently. Saidul Islam, who came from Baridhara, said, “I arrived at 5:00 a.m. I collected fuel three days ago, and now I need more for the holiday.”
At Eureka Enterprise near Mohakhali Railgate, only CNG was being supplied. Cashier Yasin Hossain stated, “Petrol ran out last night. A delivery is expected this afternoon, and distribution will begin thereafter.”
Trust Filling Station in Bijoy Sarani faced some of the longest queues, with cars extending beyond Jahangir Gate and motorcycles reaching the Prime Minister’s Office main gate. A staff member, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed, “There is no fuel shortage. We are meeting the demand of all customers.”
