Tomorrow, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will host a commemorative event honouring the birth anniversary of the illustrious Lalon singer Farida Parveen. Revered as a luminous figure in the realm of Lalon music, Parveen dedicated her entire life to preserving and transmitting this unique cultural heritage to future generations.
To ensure the continuity of this musical tradition, she founded the Achin Pakhi Sangeet Academy, where young enthusiasts are meticulously trained in the subtleties of Lalon songs. Through this institution, Parveen’s vision of an enduring musical legacy continues to inspire and educate budding musicians across Bangladesh.
Reflecting on her journey, Farida Parveen once remarked:
“Just as my guru lives through his disciples, I wish my musical presence to remain immortal through the students of Achin Pakhi Academy.”
The birth anniversary celebration will take place at the Chitrashala Auditorium of the Shilpakala Academy on 31 December at 4:00 pm. The programme will feature discussions on Parveen’s life, her artistic philosophy, and her musical achievements, alongside performances by her disciples and contemporary musicians.

By fourteen, she embarked on a professional musical career, gaining proficiency across Nazrulgeeti, patriotic songs, and folk music. However, it was her unparalleled mastery of Lalon songs that cemented her reputation as one of Bangladesh’s foremost exponents of this genre.
