Chelsea defeated in London Derby, new coach Rosenior present in the stands

Chelsea’s recent managerial change has failed to halt their wretched run of form, as the West London club suffered a 2-1 defeat to Fulham in the latest London Derby. The loss leaves Chelsea winless in five consecutive English Premier League matches, raising concerns over their mid-season struggles.

The fixture, held at Fulham’s Craven Cottage on Wednesday evening, saw interim coach Callum McFarlane overseeing Chelsea from the dugout, as newly appointed manager Liam Rosenior watched the game from the stands, yet to officially take charge of the team.

Chelsea were dealt an early blow when Marc Cucurella received a straight red card in the 22nd minute for fouling Harry Wilson, reducing the visitors to ten men. This marked Chelsea’s eighth red card of the season across all competitions, highlighting their disciplinary issues.

Fulham took the lead in the 55th minute when Raúl Jiménez headed home, but their advantage was short-lived. Chelsea responded in the 72nd minute after a corner saw Liam Delap score from close range, restoring some hope for the beleaguered side.

However, the hosts regained the upper hand late in the match. In the 81st minute, Harry Wilson struck a half-volley from inside the box, sealing the victory for Fulham and extinguishing any hopes of a comeback for Chelsea.

The defeat drops Chelsea to eighth place in the Premier League, with 31 points from 21 matches, while Fulham occupy ninth on goal difference, also on 31 points.
