In a bold declaration, Shakilur Rahman Sohag, Senior Vice-President of the Rajshahi University branch of Chhatra Dal, claimed that the student organisation could remove Rajshahi University Central Student Union (RACSU) General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar from the campus in just 30 minutes. The statement was made during a rally and subsequent gathering on Monday afternoon at the Shahid Buddhijibi Memorial Square, commemorating the homecoming of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. A video of Sohag’s remarks quickly circulated on Facebook, igniting discussions across social media.
Sohag alleged that RACSU leaders had previously created instability on campus, even locking several dean offices and the offices of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Proctor. “We issued a statement protesting these actions to maintain a healthy campus environment, which the majority of students welcomed. Yet, certain footage-obsessed RACSU leaders criticised our protest,” Sohag said.
Directing his comments at Salahuddin Ammar, Sohag added emphatically, “You don’t need to confront Chhatra Dal. You don’t even need all of Rajshahi. Just Rajshahi University Chhatra Dal alone can remove a footage-hunting individual like Salahuddin Ammar from the campus within thirty minutes—capable, capable, capable.”
Responding on his personal Facebook account, Salahuddin Ammar dismissed the threat, writing that he would not allow himself to become a burden on the campus despite having been present since 2007. He further stated, “I will work to counter the actions of the Awami fascists. If you have the courage, come forward, Chandabhai.”
The Chhatra Dal event, organised to welcome Tarique Rahman’s return, began at 1:30 pm with a procession from the Shahid Buddhijibi Memorial Square. The march traversed key campus roads before concluding at the starting point with a brief assembly. Participants chanted slogans including, “The motherland calls, Tarique Rahman returns,” “Tarique Rahman in the land of heroes, will return to Bangladesh,” and “No fear for Tarique Rahman, we will not abandon the streets.”
At the gathering, Chhatra Dal Rajshahi University branch president Sultan Ahmed Rahi stated, “Ignoring conspiratorial forces, Tarique Rahman returns after 18 years, relying on the strength of the Bengali people. His return aims to ensure national welfare, security, and progress. Any attempts to destabilise the country post-25 December will be firmly resisted by BNP activists.”
