A deep sense of anxiety has gripped a local family in Dhaka following the disappearance of a seven-year-old girl from the East Shewrapara neighbourhood. Law enforcement agencies have intensified their search operations, scanning security camera footage and conducting targeted raids across several parts of the metropolis to rescue the child safely.
The missing child, identified as Nusrat Jahan, resides in the area with her family. Her father, Md Tazel, earns his livelihood as a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw driver. According to statements provided by the victim’s parents to local law enforcement, Nusrat went missing from right outside their residence yesterday afternoon at approximately 4:30 PM.
Upon receiving formal notification of the incident late last evening, officers from the Kafrul Police Station initiated an immediate inquiry. By 10:00 PM, investigators had gathered and reviewed vital closed-circuit television footage from adjacent buildings and streets to trace the child’s movements.
Visual evidence captured by a nearby surveillance camera reveals crucial details of the sequence of events. The footage shows young Nusrat playing in a narrow alley adjacent to the Health Lab Diagnostic Centre in East Shewrapara. Shortly afterwards, a young woman wearing a black kameez approaches the child, takes her by the hand, and walks with her for a brief period. The unidentified woman is then seen taking the child onto a rickshaw, departing East Shewrapara and heading towards the Taltola area.
Md Saiful Islam, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kafrul Police Station, confirmed that a general diary (GD) has been formally lodged regarding the incident.
“We received information regarding the matter around 9:00 PM yesterday,” the police official stated. “Ever since, multiple specialized units of law enforcement have been actively deployed. We have conducted overnight raids across various suspected locations, including the Vasantek slum and Mohammadpur, to trace and rescue the child. Efforts to locate her remain ongoing.”
