Faisal Ahmed, the district’s acting Civil Surgeon, noted that while any child mortality is a serious concern, the overall number of cases in Mymensingh is not disproportionately high relative to the population. He highlighted that nearly 80 per cent of the affected children are under nine months of age, making them particularly vulnerable to complications.
Medical staff at Mymensingh Medical College are intensifying surveillance, providing supportive care, and urging parents to seek immediate attention if their children show early signs of infection. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have called for heightened awareness in both urban and rural communities.
The hospital and district health officials have stressed the importance of timely medical intervention and vaccination updates where applicable, to reduce the risk of further fatalities among infants and young children.
