Child Fatally Struck by MP’s Convoy in Chakaria

A devastating accident in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, claimed the life of an eight-year-old boy on Sunday afternoon, leaving the local community in profound grief and outrage. The child, identified as Khaled Bin Walid, was tragically struck by a vehicle within the convoy of local Member of Parliament Alamgir Mohammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid. Local residents, shocked and enraged, attempted to halt the convoy by blocking the road with a dump truck, temporarily preventing several vehicles from advancing. Despite the blockade, one vehicle continued on its path toward the Badrkhali naval police outpost. Following intervention by local BNP leaders, the remaining convoy vehicles were permitted to proceed, though tensions remained high among bystanders.

The tragedy has sparked widespread attention on social media. A video circulating online shows Khaled’s mother in deep anguish, clutching her son and pleading repeatedly, “Wake up, my son… wake up…,” a heart-rending moment that has evoked strong emotional responses nationwide.

Chakaria police officer-in-charge Mohammad Monir Hossain confirmed the incident, stating: “The child was killed after being run over by a vehicle in the MP’s convoy. The vehicle involved has been seized, and the situation is now under control.” Multiple attempts to obtain a statement from MP Alamgir Mohammad Mahfuz Ullah Farid were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
