Chircut’s Two Decade Journey in Music

Dhaka: One of Bangladesh’s most beloved bands, Chirkut, has proudly marked its twentieth anniversary. Under the visionary leadership of lyricist, composer, music director, and vocalist Sharmin Sultana Sumi, Chirkut has, over the past two decades, contributed an array of memorable songs to the Bangla music repertoire. These compositions have carved a special place in the hearts of music lovers, resonating not only as melodies but as reflections of life’s joys, sorrows, struggles, and dreams.

Chirkut’s journey has been inseparably entwined with the lives of the nation’s music enthusiasts. Their songs capture the human experience, blending personal emotions with universal themes of love, resilience, and hope. The band’s dedication to their craft has not gone unnoticed: Chirkut has received multiple national and international awards, affirming their pivotal role in shaping modern Bangla music.

The band began the new year on a celebratory note with performances and accolades. On 3 January 2026, Chirkut won hearts during a live concert in Sylhet, captivating audiences with their trademark energy and emotive sound. Shortly thereafter, on 9 January 2026, the band was honoured at the 25th Dhallywood Film & Music Awards, receiving the coveted Best Band award for the third time. This recognition was in appreciation of their hit song “Dami” from the 2025 album “Bhalobashasamagra”. The award ceremony saw the full ensemble on stage, led by Sharmin Sultana Sumi, celebrating their artistic achievements.

Reflecting on the band’s two-decade journey, Sumi remarked,
“Chirkut has always pursued innovation in melody and song. We have fostered creativity among our members, producing music that mirrors life’s joys and struggles. It is a matter of pride that we can present Bangla music on international platforms alongside globally recognised bands. We aspire for Chirkut to remain an enduring symbol of love in people’s hearts.”

Currently, Chirkut is focusing on its fifth studio album and plans regular national and international concerts, promising new releases that will continue to enchant audiences. Next year, the band intends to commemorate its 25th anniversary with a “Silver Jubilee” celebration, featuring a grand concert, special events, and a new album launch.
