Chittagong University Releases First-Year ‘A’ Unit Results

Chittagong University has published the results of its first-year undergraduate entrance examination for the ‘A’ Unit. Out of a total of 79,410 candidates, 41,609 have successfully passed, while 37,801 students failed, resulting in a pass rate of 52.40 per cent. The top scorer in the merit list achieved an impressive 90.65 out of 100 marks.

The results were released this Wednesday afternoon and are available on the university’s official website and Facebook page. Professor Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, the university’s Vice-Chancellor (Academic), confirmed the figures to Prothom Alo.

The ‘A’ Unit comprises four faculties: Science, Biological Sciences, Engineering, and Marine Sciences and Fisheries. This year, examinations were conducted across three divisions—Dhaka, Chittagong, and Rajshahi—on the previous Friday. The unit offers a total of 1,093 seats, meaning competition remains intense despite a relatively low pass rate.

A comparison of recent years shows fluctuating success rates:

Academic YearCandidates AppearedPassed StudentsFailed StudentsPass Rate (%)
2026-2779,41041,60937,80152.40
2025-2678,00041,86236,13853.65
2024-2575,00033,92741,07345.22

Compared with the previous academic year, this year’s pass rate has increased by 7.18 percentage points compared with 2023-24 but is slightly lower than the 2025-26 rate, which stood at 53.65 per cent. Notably, the minimum eligibility requirements for applicants were reduced this year, and students’ GPA results from SSC and HSC examinations were not considered, potentially influencing overall results.

The university maintains a system of four main units and three sub-units for undergraduate admissions. In total, 233,326 students were scheduled to sit for examinations this year. Today, the B-1 sub-unit test was conducted for students seeking admission to the departments of Drama, Music, and Fine Arts. The B-2 sub-unit exam is scheduled for tomorrow, followed by the C Unit on Friday and the B Unit on Saturday.

University officials noted that admissions will proceed based on merit lists derived from these results. They also emphasised that while the pass rate remains moderate, the examination continues to be a rigorous assessment of students’ aptitude in science, technology, and the arts. The results reflect both the competitive nature of the intake and ongoing efforts to maintain academic standards at Chittagong University.
