A devastating road accident in Borhanuddin Upazila, Bhola, has claimed the life of a CNG driver and left five passengers critically injured, casting a sombre shadow over the community just days ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
The collision occurred on Thursday afternoon, 19 March 2026, at Lebukata on the Bhola–Char Fasson highway, when a CNG carrying five passengers collided head-on with an oncoming pickup van. The violent impact left all six occupants of the CNG severely injured.
The deceased, Salauddin Mia, 41, was a resident of Ward 3, Uttar Dighaldi Union, Bhola Sadar Upazila, and the son of Yunus Mia. A father of four, Salauddin was a seasoned CNG driver known locally for his dedication and work ethic.
Eyewitnesses reported that the CNG was travelling from Char Fasson to Bhola city when it encountered the pickup van at Lebukata. The crash was so severe that local residents rushed to assist, transporting the victims to Bhola Sadar Hospital. Medical staff pronounced Salauddin dead upon arrival. The five passengers remain hospitalised, with their injuries described as serious but stable.
The tragedy has left Salauddin’s family and the surrounding community in deep grief. His mother, overwhelmed by the loss of her only son, reportedly fainted multiple times, while neighbours expressed profound sorrow at the untimely death of a family man during the festive pre-Eid period.
Borhanuddin Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md. Moniruzzaman, confirmed that authorities responded swiftly, providing first aid and transporting the injured. The pickup driver, however, fled the scene and remains at large. Police have launched an investigation and promised legal action once the driver is apprehended.
