A sudden explosion at the main entrance of Gopalganj University of Science and Technology (GUST) on Monday night sent waves of panic through the student body. The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 pm, when four unidentified assailants on two motorcycles hurled a cocktail device at the university gate before swiftly fleeing towards the city.
Students present at the scene described a loud, jarring blast that shook the surrounding area and enveloped the gate in a thick cloud of smoke. Many students immediately fled to safer locations, while the university administration and local authorities rushed to the scene to restore order.
Dr. Arifuzzaman Rajib, Proctor of GUST, commented on the incident: “This act appears to be aimed primarily at instilling fear among students. Ensuring the safety of our students is our highest priority, and we will not allow such events to recur.”
The district police issued a statement confirming that they, along with military personnel, arrived at the site shortly after midnight.
