Content Creator Severely Burnt During Video Shoot

In a tragic accident that has raised concerns across Bangladesh’s social media community, Mohammad Al Amin, a content creator from Mymensingh, sustained serious burns while filming a winter-themed video. Currently receiving treatment at Dhaka’s BARDem Hospital, Al Amin’s ordeal underscores the dangers inherent in producing content designed primarily for online virality.

The accident took place last Friday morning near Itkholar Mor in Daryapur, Gauripur Upazila. Al Amin, a resident of Daryapur village under Ramgopalpur Union, normally works as an assistant bricklayer. However, over the past five years, he has devoted considerable time to producing videos ranging from comedy sketches to imaginative and surreal content, gradually building a sizeable online following.

Al Amin’s creative work often involves a team of 30–35 local young people. One team member, Azad Hossain, recounted that the accident occurred while filming a winter-themed stunt. The scene involved Al Amin pouring petrol into a pond and attempting to ignite flames while bathing in the water, intended to create a dramatic visual effect. Unfortunately, a sudden gust of wind caused the flames to spiral out of control, severely burning Al Amin’s back, legs, and other areas.

He was promptly rescued and taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Medical staff have confirmed that 28 to 30 per cent of his body was affected by burns, though his condition has since shown slight improvement. Hossain explained, “We could not have imagined such a mishap. The wind caused the flames to become uncontrollable. None of our previous shoots were ever this dangerous. We will take far more precautions in future productions. This is a lesson for everyone.”

A video capturing the incident has circulated widely on social media. It shows Al Amin engulfed in flames and leaping into the pond in a desperate bid to escape. The footage has prompted widespread discussion about the risks associated with content creation that prioritises shock value over safety.

The Mymensingh Divisional Content Creators Association has issued a warning. Secretary Kangal Shaheen said, “Many creators are pushing boundaries for the sake of virality, often disregarding the risks to their own safety. Al Amin’s accident should serve as a cautionary tale. No video is worth endangering one’s life.”

Experts note that incidents like these are symptomatic of a broader problem: the pressure to gain likes, views, and followers can lead content creators to take extreme and hazardous measures. Safety protocols, risk assessment, and responsible creative practices are increasingly being emphasised to prevent such accidents. Al Amin’s story is not just an individual tragedy; it highlights the urgent need for awareness and caution in Bangladesh’s rapidly growing social media content industry.
