Dhaka authorities have ordered the imprisonment of Fahim Al Hasan, husband of Sharmin Jahan, following the discovery of her bloodied body at a rented residence near Jahangirnagar University. The court also set 24 March for the hearing of a remand request in connection with the case.
The decision was delivered on Monday by Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Siddiqua at a Dhaka court. Earlier, the prosecution had requested a five-day remand for Mr Hasan to facilitate further questioning.
According to Sub-Inspector Md. Shahiduzzaman of Ashulia Police Station, who is the investigating officer of the case, “We applied for a five-day remand to the court. The court has instead scheduled the remand hearing for 24 March and directed that Fahim Al Hasan be sent to prison in the meantime. He has been remanded to Keraniganj Central Jail.”
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday when Sharmin Jahan, a student of the Public Administration Department, Batch 51, was found in a critical, bloodied condition at a rented flat in Savar. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. The police immediately detained her husband for questioning following the discovery.
Later that night, Sharmin Jahan’s uncle, Monirul Islam, filed a formal murder case at Ashulia Police Station. Fahim Al Hasan was presented before the court on Monday morning in connection with this case.
