A violent altercation over a local cricket game in Rajnagar Upazila, Moulvibazar, has tragically claimed the life of 26-year-old Tarek Ahmed. Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the incident, raising urgent questions about local security and supervision in public spaces.
Incident Details
According to Rajnagar police, the confrontation occurred on the afternoon of 25 February around 5:30 pm in Ghorgaon village, near Balidighi’s southern bank. Tarek Ahmed and several neighbours were playing cricket when a verbal disagreement erupted between him and 22-year-old Atik Ahmed, along with Atik’s associates. The argument quickly escalated into a physical fight.
Atik and his accomplices reportedly attacked Tarek with a sharp weapon, inflicting multiple injuries to his hands, thighs, and legs. He was immediately taken to Rajnagar Upazila Health Complex. Due to the severity of his wounds, doctors transferred him to the 250-Bed Moulvibazar Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Following the death, Tarek’s elder sister, Selina Jannat Suma, filed a murder case at Rajnagar Police Station on 26 February.
