Cross-Border Terror Plot Foiled

Indian security agencies have claimed to have thwarted a major terror conspiracy following a coordinated, intelligence-led operation spanning multiple regions of the country. Acting on sustained surveillance and joint policing efforts, authorities arrested eight individuals allegedly linked to the Pakistan-based banned extremist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to police statements, seven of those detained are citizens of Bangladesh.

Officials said the network had been under observation for several weeks before simultaneous raids were conducted across India, including locations in Delhi, Kolkata, the southern state of Tamil Nadu, as well as areas along the India–Bangladesh border. Investigators believe the group was preparing coordinated attacks targeting sensitive installations, though no specific site has been publicly disclosed.

Among those arrested is a man identified by investigators as Shabbir Ahmed Lone, described as a key operative in the alleged network. Police in Delhi claim he has a long history of involvement in militant activity, including a previous arrest in 2007 in connection with arms and explosives offences. Authorities further allege that after periods of incarceration and release on bail, he continued clandestine activities and eventually operated across borders, reportedly maintaining links between India and Bangladesh.

During the operation, security forces recovered several items considered relevant to the investigation. These include mobile phones, debit and credit cards, point-of-sale devices, Bangladeshi passports, and propaganda materials. Officials suspect these tools were used for financial transactions, encrypted communication, and recruitment-related messaging.

Security officials have stated that the network maintained contact across borders and allegedly attempted to expand its operational reach within India. However, they claim that timely intervention prevented the execution of any planned attacks.

The investigation is ongoing, with interrogations of the suspects continuing in order to identify wider associates and funding channels. Security analysts note that dismantling such transnational networks requires enhanced intelligence-sharing mechanisms and strengthened technological surveillance across borders.
