Paris Saint-Germain and France forward Ousmane Dembele was named FIFA Men’s Player of the Year 2025 on Tuesday in Doha, while Aitana Bonmati of Barcelona and Spain won the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year for a remarkable third consecutive year.
Dembele, 28, played a pivotal role in PSG’s historic first Champions League triumph, helping his side thrash Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. Over the 2024–25 season, he scored a total of 35 goals across all competitions, including 21 in Ligue 1, earning him the top scorer accolade. His contributions also saw PSG sweep domestic competitions and reach the final of the Club World Cup. Earlier this year, he had secured the Ballon d’Or, further cementing his status as one of the world’s elite forwards.
Bonmati, 27, also had an outstanding year, guiding Barcelona to a domestic treble and reaching the Champions League final. Her performances at the Euro 2025 were equally impressive, where she helped Spain reach the final before losing to England on penalties and was named Player of the Tournament. Bonmati also won the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the third year running, a testament to her consistency and influence in world football.
The coaching awards went to Sarina Wiegman, who received the Best Women’s Coach for the fifth time after leading England to retain the European Championship, and Luis Enrique, who guided PSG to their maiden Champions League victory to claim the Men’s Coach of the Year award.
Goalkeeping honours were awarded to Hannah Hampton of England and Chelsea for her penalty saves in the Euro 2025 shootout and treble-winning domestic campaign, while Gianluigi Donnarumma of Italy and Manchester City was named Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, recognising his role in PSG’s treble-winning season.
The prestigious FIFA Puskas Award for the best men’s goal went to Santiago Montiel for his overhead strike for Independiente, while the FIFA Marta Award, recognising the best goal in women’s football, was claimed by Mexico’s Lizbeth Ovalle for her spectacular scorpion kick for Tigres against Guadalajara in March.
