Dhaka Bank PLC, in strategic partnership with Mastercard, officially launched “Spark”, Bangladesh’s first dual-currency prepaid card designed exclusively for young people, on 24 November 2025. The initiative marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards financial inclusion, digital banking, and youth empowerment.
Targeting students and young professionals, the Spark card has been created to align with the evolving financial habits and lifestyle aspirations of Bangladesh’s youth. The card enables users to make secure payments both locally and internationally, while offering a range of value-added benefits across education, entertainment, travel, dining, technology, and fashion.
The launch event was attended by over 100 students from seven leading private universities, reflecting strong interest from the academic community. A panel discussion held during the programme explored the importance of digital inclusion, financial literacy, and the growing role of youth in shaping Bangladesh’s digital economy.
Speaking at the event, Md. Mostaque Ahmed, Managing Director & CEO of Dhaka Bank PLC, said:
“Spark reflects the energy, ambition, and global outlook of Bangladesh’s youth. This card is designed not only as a payment tool, but as a gateway to enhanced financial freedom and lifestyle convenience.”
Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager for Bangladesh at Mastercard, highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative, stating:
“Spark supports digitally savvy young individuals with secure, seamless, and rewarding payment experiences. It represents our shared commitment to empowering the next generation through innovation.”
One of Spark’s defining features is its dual-currency capability, allowing users to transact in both Bangladeshi Taka and foreign currencies. This makes it particularly useful for international exam registrations, online subscriptions, travel bookings, and cross-border e-commerce—areas where young consumers are increasingly active.
In addition to payment flexibility, Spark cardholders gain access to an extensive ecosystem of merchant partners, enhancing everyday spending with tangible rewards and savings.
