Dhaka Man Fatally Stabbed in Shantibagh Incident

A 32-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Dhaka’s Shantibagh area late on Monday night, reportedly after intervening to prevent drug use in his neighbourhood. The victim, Sekandar Ali, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after sustaining multiple critical injuries from a sharp weapon.

Incident Overview

The attack occurred around 11 p.m. in the Bangari Lane locality of Shantibagh. According to family members, Sekandar Ali, a resident of Rampara Olnobazar, lived with his wife, Mahfuza, and their three children. Originally from Gajipur village in Titash Upazila, Comilla District, he operated two auto-rickshaws in Shahjahanpur’s Bangari Lane to earn his livelihood.

Family accounts suggest that the assailants, including Mamun (also known as Bullet Mamun), his brother-in-law Hannan, and several accomplices, carried out a premeditated attack. Witnesses reported that the confrontation began when Sekandar attempted to prevent the suspects’ drug use. He was repeatedly struck with a knife and other sharp objects, leaving him critically injured. Local residents rushed him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds despite emergency medical treatment.

Alleged Motive

Relatives claim that the attackers are well-known drug dealers in the area and had previously been obstructed by Sekandar in their illicit operations. The family believes the fatal assault was a targeted retaliation for his earlier interventions.

Police Action

Inspector Md. Faruk, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed that the victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Reports indicate multiple stab wounds to the head and other parts of the body. Shahjahanpur police have initiated a formal investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Authorities have urged the public to come forward with information, emphasising that acts of violence, particularly those linked to drug-related disputes, will not be tolerated. The case underscores the ongoing security challenges in Dhaka’s residential areas, where individuals attempting to resist criminal activity may face lethal consequences.

The tragic death of Sekandar Ali highlights the dangers faced by community members confronting illicit operations and reinforces the urgent need for stronger law enforcement and targeted interventions against drug-related violence.
