Dhaka Metro Introduces Special Ramadan Schedule

In anticipation of increased passenger demand during the holy month of Ramadan, the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Company Limited (DMRTCL) has announced a special metro schedule. The official notice, released on Monday, indicates that train timings have been adjusted to align with office hours and the daily routines of commuters.

According to the notice, the first train departing from Uttara North Station towards Motijheel will leave at 6:30 AM, while the last train will depart at 9:30 PM. In the reverse direction, from Motijheel to Uttara North, the first train is scheduled for 7:15 AM, with the final service at 10:10 PM.

The interval between trains, known as the headway, has also been modified to accommodate varying passenger volumes throughout the day. During peak hours in the morning and evening, headways will range between 5 minutes 30 seconds and 8 minutes. During off-peak periods, headways may extend to 15–20 minutes, ensuring efficient yet safe operations.

To enhance passenger convenience during Ramadan, DMRTCL has permitted the carrying of drinking water within stations and on trains. Passengers may also transport Iftar items, provided they adhere to prescribed safety regulations. The authorities have additionally issued a special appeal to commuters to maintain cleanliness and hygiene within stations and onboard trains.

The notice confirms that this revised schedule will remain in effect on all government holidays, including Saturdays, providing continuous service for the travelling public. Officials emphasised that the special arrangement is particularly beneficial for office workers, students, and regular commuters, facilitating timely and comfortable journeys throughout the month.

DMRTCL has also assured passengers that adequate staff will be deployed across stations and trains to manage operations efficiently, assist passengers, and maintain security during the heightened travel period. The schedule has been designed thoughtfully to harmonise with office timings, educational institutions, and other essential daily activities during Ramadan.
