Dhaka Welcomes First Showers of Season

Residents of Dhaka experienced their first rainfall of the season on Monday, bringing relief after the lingering chill of winter. Clouds had been accumulating over the capital since early morning, and by midday, light showers were reported in scattered parts of the city, offering a refreshing respite to its inhabitants.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has indicated that the rain is not limited to Dhaka alone. Additional showers are expected in four other major divisions today. According to the BMD, isolated rain or thundershowers may occur in Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet. Meanwhile, most other regions are likely to experience partly cloudy skies, with generally dry conditions prevailing.

The agency further forecasts that similar weather patterns will continue on Tuesday, with isolated rain or thundershowers expected once more in Dhaka, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet.

Temperature conditions across the country are expected to remain largely stable during the day, with only slight dips at night. In Dhaka, winds from the west or northwest are forecast to blow at 8 to 12 kilometres per hour, creating a mild and breezy atmosphere that complements the light showers.

Meteorologists have advised that while the rainfall is generally light and intermittent, temporary waterlogging may occur in low-lying urban areas. Citizens are also cautioned to exercise care during sudden spells of rain, particularly in busy traffic zones.

The first showers of the season not only bring relief from the fading winter chill but also contribute positively to soil moisture levels in agricultural regions. With moderate temperatures and mostly partly cloudy skies elsewhere, the overall weather pattern is expected to remain relatively stable over the next 24 to 48 hours.

For Dhaka residents, the rain offers a welcome change—refreshing the air, reducing dust, and heralding the gradual transition toward slightly cooler and wetter days ahead.
