DMP: 1,502 Cases of Traffic Law Violations

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division has intensified its enforcement drive across the capital, filing a total of 1,502 cases against motorists for breaching traffic regulations. The figures were disclosed in an official press release issued on Sunday, 25 January, by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department.

According to the statement, the cases stemmed from coordinated traffic operations conducted on Saturday, 24 January, in multiple areas of Dhaka. The initiative forms part of the police authority’s broader efforts to restore discipline on the city’s congested roads, reduce accidents, and ensure safer mobility for commuters.

Traffic police sources confirmed that violations were recorded across all major traffic divisions of the capital, involving a wide range of vehicles, including buses, trucks, covered vans, CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles. Motorcycles accounted for a significant proportion of the offences, reflecting growing concerns over reckless riding, lane violations, and non-compliance with safety rules.

The Mirpur Traffic Division registered the highest number of cases, underscoring the persistent traffic pressure and frequent rule violations in the area. Other busy zones such as Motijheel, Tejgaon, Gulshan, and Lalbagh also saw substantial enforcement actions, particularly against buses and commercial vehicles operating in violation of traffic laws.

In addition to issuing cases, the traffic division took firm measures against illegally parked and obstructing vehicles. During the operation, 362 vehicles were impounded through dumping, while a further 150 vehicles were removed using wreckers. Officials noted that such actions are essential to easing congestion and maintaining smooth traffic flow, especially in high-density commercial and residential areas.

Senior DMP officials reiterated that traffic discipline remains a top priority for the metropolitan police. They stressed that regular enforcement drives would continue across Dhaka to deter violations, promote road safety awareness, and improve overall traffic management. Motorists were urged to comply with traffic laws, maintain valid documents, and follow designated lanes to avoid legal action and contribute to a safer urban transport environment.
