Residents of Dhamoirhat in Naogaon District were left shocked on Sunday, 15 February, following the revelation that dogs were allegedly being sold as goat meat in a local market. Around 9:30 a.m., butcher Entazul and his assistant Dulu Moulvi were reportedly seen slaughtering dogs and attempting to sell the meat at Mongolbari market. The discovery prompted an immediate reaction from the public, who forced the men to abandon the meat and flee the scene.
According to eyewitnesses and police reports, Entazul and Dulu Moulvi frequently supplied meat from their residences along the Nengrapir–Isbopur road to the Tetultoli junction market. However, this Sunday, locals noticed the slaughter of dogs at Entazul’s home, triggering widespread alarm. News of the act quickly spread throughout the market, leading to the shop being surrounded by concerned residents until the accused escaped.
Golam Kibria, Chairman of Jahanpur Union Parishad, confirmed that authorities had recovered approximately 25 kilograms of dog meat from the site. He added, “This kind of inhumane and unhygienic activity is completely unacceptable. Appropriate legal measures will be taken to prevent such incidents.”
Officer-in-Charge of Dhamoirhat Police Station, Mokhlesur Rahman, stated, “Our team was deployed immediately upon receiving information. We have seized the heads, skins, and meat of the slaughtered dogs. Operations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.”
