Drug Control Officer Injured in Dhaka Shooting

A senior officer of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) was shot while on duty near the Sayedabad railway line in the Jatrabari area of Dhaka on Monday. The injured officer has been identified as Siddiqur Rahman, 41, who serves as the inspector for the Khilgaon region.

According to colleagues, the incident occurred around 12:30 PM during an anti-narcotics operation. An unidentified assailant, reportedly linked to narcotics trafficking, opened fire on the officer. The bullet struck Mr Rahman in his left leg, after which the assailant fled the scene.

Siddiqur Rahman was immediately transported to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he is currently receiving treatment in the emergency department. Inspector Faruk of the DMCH police outpost confirmed that Mr Rahman’s condition is stable and that he has received initial medical care.

Authorities from both the DNC and Dhaka Metropolitan Police are actively pursuing the assailant. Officials expressed concern over the rising number of violent incidents against anti-narcotics personnel, coinciding with intensified operations across the capital.
