DUCSU Threatens Student Movement Over Advisers

The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) has issued a stern ultimatum demanding the resignation of the Home, Law, and Foreign Affairs Advisers unless the government demonstrates tangible improvements in law and order and secures the return of key fugitives, including high-profile cases such as Hasina and other convicted murderers. The warning was delivered by DUCSU’s Literature and Cultural Secretary, Musaddiq Ali Ibn Mohammad, on Thursday, 18 December.

In his statement, Musaddiq Ali said that DUCSU had previously demanded the arrest of all ruling party-affiliated terrorists within 48 hours, alongside the launch of a nationwide operation to confiscate illegal firearms. While acknowledging that the ongoing “Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2” had resulted in 4,360 arrests nationwide over the past three days—a development he called “somewhat satisfactory”—he stressed that law enforcement must avoid harassment of innocent citizens, and that only genuine criminals and terrorists should be apprehended.

Despite these operations, Musaddiq Ali argued that numerous high-profile ruling party-affiliated criminals remain at large. He placed full responsibility on Home Adviser Jahangir Alam for any future crimes committed by these individuals, including secret assassinations, militant rallies, and acts of arson.

He further criticised the legal system, noting that, although police efforts to apprehend criminals are diligent, influential political figures and financial dealings often result in repeated bail for offenders. Musaddiq Ali warned that if such bail practices continue, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul would bear full accountability.

Addressing the Osman Hadi case, he stated that while accomplices of the primary accused have been arrested, no visible efforts have been made to apprehend the main shooter, Faisal. Similarly, effective steps to repatriate other convicted killers, including Hasina, have yet to be taken.

Regarding the Foreign Affairs Adviser, Musaddiq Ali noted that recent statements may appear strong, but without concrete action to return fugitives, such rhetoric is meaningless. He urged the adviser to take real and effective measures, including diplomatic initiatives against foreign governments, such as India, if they refuse cooperation.

He concluded that unless visible improvements in law enforcement are achieved and fugitives are repatriated promptly, DUCSU will mobilise a nationwide student movement demanding the resignation of the Home, Law, and Foreign Affairs Advisers.
