EC Committed to Delivering a Free and Fair Election: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has said that organising a free, fair and credible election is a collective commitment of all political parties as well as the nation, and that the Election Commission is firmly committed to delivering a fair election to the people of the country.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during a dialogue with political parties at the Election Commission building. At the meeting, the CEC urged all parties to cooperate fully with the Commission and to strictly adhere to the electoral code of conduct throughout the election process.

Emphasising the importance of compliance, Nasir Uddin said that it is impossible to ensure a fair election without following the code of conduct. The Commission expects all political parties to honour their commitments not only in words but also in practice. He noted that maintaining law and order is essential for a peaceful and credible election, and that this is directly linked to proper observance of electoral rules.

The CEC pointed out that the role of political parties is even more crucial than that of law enforcement agencies in ensuring a successful election. If parties act responsibly and sincerely, the burden on the Election Commission is significantly reduced and the electoral process becomes more orderly and transparent.

He said the Commission is working in coordination with the administration, law enforcement agencies and other relevant institutions to ensure an inclusive, neutral and credible election. Ensuring the safety of polling centres, election officials and voters remains one of the Commission’s top priorities.

Highlighting voter participation, the CEC called on political parties to encourage citizens to come to polling stations and exercise their voting rights freely and without fear. He said strong voter turnout is the foundation of democracy and reflects public confidence in the electoral process.

Expressing optimism, Nasir Uddin said he hopes all political parties will play a responsible role in the upcoming election and cooperate with the Election Commission to deliver an election that is widely accepted by the people.
